Rotary celebrates the holidays at Park Slope women’s shelter

Brooklyn Bridge Rotaries brought fellowship and food — and plenty of holiday good cheer — to the Frances Residency in Park Slope on Dec. 27

The club held its Christmas week meeting at the residency, which is part of the CHIPS program at 200 Fourth Ave., serving dinner to its young mothers and moms-to-be, and leaving gifts.

The event was organized by Rotarians Sandra Dowling, Clover March and President Vivian Hardison. Rotarian Jean S. Sardo (of New York Rotary Club No. 6), who helped the Brooklyn Bridge Club raise funds for the residency, also participated.

Brooklyn Bridge Rotary Club will celebrate the holidays at Park Slope woman’s shelter on Dec. 27

Instead of gathering as usual over dinner at the NY Marriott Brooklyn Bridge, the Brooklyn Bridge Rotary Club’s Christmas week meeting will be held as a special event, at the Frances Residency in Park Slope on Thursday, Dec. 27, from 6 to 8 pm.

The residency, part of the CHIPS program, is located at 200 Fourth Ave., corner Sackett Street. Members of the club are encouraged to attend.

Brooklyn Bridge Rotary will present gifts that are needed by mothers living in the Frances Residency during the months after giving birth. The Rotarians will be addressed by Crystal Smith of the residency team, speak with several of the residents, and enjoy food, music and fellowship. Desserts were contributed by Lassen & Hennings of Brooklyn Heights.

Club President Vivian Hardison and Rotarians Sandra Dowling and Clover March organized the event. Rotarian Jean S. Sardo (New York Rotary Club No. 6), who helped the Brooklyn Bridge Club raise funds for the residency, will participate, as will a number of other Rotarians who will speak briefly.

The Thursday, Dec. 27, program will run from 6 to 8 pm. For further information, contact President Vivian at 917-804-0797.
